Defending our party and our democracy
We are lifelong Republicans. We are patriots who believe in basic decency, civil discourse, fact-based arguments, and the sanctity of the U.S. Constitution. Our mission is to ensure that Donald Trump is not elected to a second term and to reclaim the Republican Party.
Donald Trump, a Republican in name only
The Republican Party, the party of Abraham Lincoln, is a Party whose principles are rooted in the defense of the institutions that uphold our great Republic. In its long history, the Party has stood for the values that ensure the health, freedom and prosperity of our people and America’s leadership in the world. But after Donald Trump hijacked the Party, he replaced our Republican principles and positions with a platform to solely serve his narcissistic desires and autocratic tendencies.
The soul of our Party and the soul of our nation are under direct assault. After co-opting the Republican Party, Donald Trump turned his sights on our government itself. In just one term, he has undermined the rule of law, chipped away at democratic pillars that uphold our republic, and caused more damage to the prestige and sovereignty of the United States than any other president in history.
All Americans are faced with an immeasurably high-stakes election in November, the most consequential of our lifetimes. If we allow this president to remain in office, we will have chosen a future in which democratic self-rule is in more serious jeopardy than any other time in the history of our country. The Republican Party and our democracy may not survive another four years of Donald Trump’s attacks on the foundational elements of the American Project.
Only after Trump is defeated can we begin to rebuild the Republican Party based on the following timeless Republican principles:
Our government’s first and most important job is to protect our citizens, not sacrifice national security on the altar of personal political gain.
Sound logic and science are required for sound decisions and policy.
Our free market system is the best way to provide everyone with the opportunity to achieve the American Dream through hard work and dedication.
Liberty and personal freedom are essential. Government works best when it is small, efficient, and at the distant margins of our lives.
Our elected officials must tell the truth to the American people and be held to the highest ethical and legal standards. No one is above the law.
America is built on the strength of our relationships with our allies and its esteemed position as a beacon of democracy, reason and decency.
We vigorously protect our constitution and the institutions which safeguard our democracy, such as the judiciary, the military, and a free and robust press.
Donald Trump’s impulses stand in stark contrast to principles identified as either conservative or Republican. He is neither. He is a shape-shifting opportunist, having been a major donor to Democrats for decades and declaring as a Republican only in 2009 at the age of sixty-three when it suited his own self-interest.
The Trump administration has generated massive federal spending deficits, trampled states’ rights, initiated damaging trade wars, alienated our allies, hired countless felons, pardoned cronies, and placed unqualified family members in critical positions. Donald Trump has shown neither regard for nor understanding of our constitution, all while glorifying dictators like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un. And, rather than unifying America in his response to COVID-19 and the George Floyd protests, he has fanned the flames of division and hatred.
Our friends throughout the world have come to pity us, while our enemies cheer for another four years of Trump-induced chaos to further weaken our great country. While we may not agree with many of the policies of the Democrats, conservatives should care deeply about the further dismantling of our country and our Party in the next four years and beyond as Trump continues to hollow out our party and our democratic institutions. We must put our country and our conservative principles ahead of politics.
How you can help
Donations to Reclaim Our Party will be used to deliver advertising to undecided voters. Our fact-based ads will dispassionately highlight the vast chasm between President Trump’s statements and the havoc created by his ineptitude and egomania.
Now more than ever, complacency is our enemy. We cannot stand by and watch the destruction of our great Republic. Nor can we allow ourselves to be lulled into a false sense of security by Trump’s second-place standing in the polls. With Trump already claiming that the election will be rigged, the phrase “every vote counts” has a wholly new and vital meaning in 2020.
